Sulfur Mines

The highlight of this site is its spectacular landscape, dominated by active fumaroles and the remains of old sulfur mines that tell the geological history of the place. The adventure starts at the “El Cura” control station, which is also the starting point for Volcán Chico. From there, the trail follows the western edge of the huge Sierra Negra caldera, with unforgettable panoramic views. It then continues past the horse trail and goes down a steep slope into the heart of the caldera, where you can get close to the mysterious sulfur fumaroles.
